Burdell Wetlands Walking Track

Early mornings on the Burdell Wetlands Walking Track bring brolgas, jabirus and kingfishers out across still water, a quiet contrast to Townsville's busier parks. Dogs are allowed on lead.

Lead rules

The track is managed by Townsville City Council, and dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.

The walk

The path is flat and accessible, paved with boardwalk sections, and runs close to the wetlands through the growing North Shore estate. It is an easy stroll for dogs of any age.

Once you move out onto the open wetland path, shade is minimal. Water is limited along the way, so carry a bottle and bowl.

Max: North Queensland heat builds fast on an exposed track. Go at first light or late afternoon, and check the path isn't too hot for paws.

Make a day of it

Stop at Junction Cafe North Shore, or give your dog an off-lead run at Sanctum Dog Park.

Street and estate parking is close to the track entry, and bins are near the estate entrances.
