Birtinya Island Walkable Waterfront

The Birtinya Island Walkable Waterfront is a wide concrete path hugging the central lake, flat and open with water views most of the way. Dogs walk it on a lead under Sunshine Coast Council rules.

Leads and off-lead options

Dogs must stay leashed along the waterfront paths and only come off inside a designated off-leash area. Viridian Park Fenced Dog Park on Viridian Circuit is the local spot for a run.

The walk

The path is continuous, smooth and level, so it suits older dogs, prams and anyone after an easy walk. Waterbirds on the lake and the busy streetscape give dogs plenty to take in.

Bins sit along the walkways, and bubblers, some with dog bowls, are placed in parks along the wider foreshore path network.

Shade and parking

Built shelters and mature trees near the picnic and barbecue areas on Regatta Boulevard give some cover, but long stretches are open to the sun. Street parking and small bays are near Regatta Boulevard and Tomkins Esplanade.

Make a day of it

Finish with coffee at Nurcha Kawana or Decisions Cafe, both in Birtinya.

In summer, walk early or late in the day, when the exposed sections are kinder to paws.
