Specimen Vale Creek and Warrenheip Gully Walk

Small creeks thread a quiet valley on the eastern side of Ballarat, and the Specimen Vale Creek and Warrenheip Gully Walk follows them through Ballarat East. It is an easy walk with gentle slopes, and dogs come along on a lead.

Lead rules

The City of Ballarat requires dogs to be on a lead on public walking tracks, shared paths and reserves unless you are inside a signed off-lead dog park. Treat the whole walk as on-lead.

The walk

Dirt tracks run beside the creeks, joined by stretches of suburban footpath and grassed reserve. Along the way you pass local plants and historic houses.

Trees along the gully give good shade in warmer months. The creek runs alongside, but there are no dog bowls or bubblers, so bring water.

Getting started

Street parking and informal spots sit near the lower entry points closer to Main Road. Bins are mostly at the trail ends and suburban edges, so plan to carry bags out.

For a second walk in town, Lake Wendouree and Ballarat Botanical Gardens are both easy options.

It suits dogs who like a quiet sniff walk away from crowds, and the gentle grades make it kind to older dogs too.
