Baird Park

Baird Park is a grassy, tree-sheltered stretch of parkland on Lower Coast Road in Stanwell Park, a short stroll from the beach. Dogs are allowed on lead, which makes it a calm warm-up before the off-leash sand nearby.

Leads and play areas

Wollongong City Council's general rules apply, so keep your dog on a lead throughout the park. Dogs must also stay at least 10 metres from children's play areas and food preparation areas.

The walk

Paved paths run through open lawn and under established trees, with the coast close by. It is a short, relaxed amble rather than a long walk, and it links easily with a stroll down to the beach reserve.

The trees give far better shade than the exposed sand. Bins are dotted around the grounds, but bring water and a bowl, as supply can be hit and miss.

Max: Street parking on Lower Coast Road fills quickly on weekends and in the holidays, so come early or expect to walk in.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run, the Stanwell Park Beach Off-Leash Green Zone is the obvious next stop. Then refuel at Uluwatu Blue.

When to go

Weekday mornings avoid the parking crush. The park suits a dog that needs a steady on-lead sniff before or after a beach session.
