Dogs are welcome to stay overnight, and the cottage sits behind a gate beside the main house driveway with a safe, enclosed outdoor area attached, so your dog has a secure spot of its own. Any pet fee is arranged with the host at booking rather than published as a fixed rate, so confirm it when you enquire. This is a self-contained rural stay, so bring your own dog bedding, food and water bowls.

Because it is a working property there are resident animals about, including friendly horses, so a well-behaved dog that is settled around livestock is the right fit. Parts of the property use electrified fencing for the paddocks, which is worth knowing if your dog pushes at fence lines. Keep your dog supervised and on lead near stock, and enjoy the enclosed yard off lead instead.

The vibe

The property is set up for quiet rural stays with a rustic, country feel, and past guests note the horse-friendly facilities that reflect its farmstay character. Yankalilla is a short drive from the coast, which puts some of the Fleurieu's most dog-welcoming sand within easy reach.

The District Council of Yankalilla allows dogs off lead at all times of year under effective control on the beach from 200 metres north of the Normanville jetty to the southern side of the Carrickalinga River estuary, one of the more generous permanent off-leash stretches in the state. Zones within 200 metres of the jetty itself are on lead, so park accordingly.

Getting there

The cottage is at the host's farm property in Yankalilla, roughly an hour's drive south of Adelaide via the Southern Expressway and Main South Road. The town has a general store and pub for basics, and Normanville and Carrickalinga are about ten minutes further for beach days and dog-friendly swimming spots.
