Weeroona Bay Football Club

Weeroona Bay Football Club at 215 Cartledge Ave, Whyalla Stuart runs a low-cost RV campground on its football grounds, and dogs are explicitly welcome. The catch is access: it is strictly for fully self-contained caravans and motorhomes, at about $10 a night.

Bringing the dog

Dogs are welcome on the camping grounds and in the outdoor areas around the club, with no separate pet fee and no published size limit. They must stay leashed and under effective control whenever they are outside your rig, and the indoor clubrooms are licensed areas your dog stays out of unless it is a registered service animal.

There are no dedicated dog amenities, so bring your own water and bowls, though the flat open ground around the oval gives you plenty of space for leashed walks.

Max: Match days and meal nights bring foot traffic and kids. Park with a buffer between your van and the clubhouse, and keep the lead short at the entrance.

How the campground works

Tents, camper trailers and rigs without their own facilities are not accepted, and there are no powered sites or showers, just toilets, bins and clotheslines at the clubhouse. Stays cap at seven nights, there are no advance bookings, and the caretaker comes around to collect the fee, so arrive with everything on board.

Meals run Thursday nights and every second Friday from February through December, sometimes with raffles, and leashed, well-behaved dogs are generally fine in the outdoor seating on those nights.

While you're out there

The shopping centre is about 2.5km away and the Whyalla Foreshore roughly five minutes by car, with seasonal on-leash and off-leash zones near the jetty under Whyalla City Council rules. For a proper enclosed run, the Whyalla Fenced Dog Park in Whyalla Norrie is the go-to, and Blended Cafe covers dog-friendly coffee in town.
