Chookhouse Farmstay

Chookhouse Farmstay is a working hobby farm on 23 acres at Vale View, about 20 minutes south of Toowoomba on the Darling Downs. It is a camping and caravan property, not a cottage stay: powered and unpowered sites such as the Top Paddock and Pepperina spread across the paddocks with rural views, and the property is strictly adults only.

Dogs at the Chookhouse

Dogs are welcome across the outdoor camping areas, with no size limit or pet fee advertised. The catch is context: this is a working farm with roosters and other animals around, so dogs need close management at all times and a lead outside your own site. It suits well-travelled dogs who camp quietly rather than stock that wants to greet every animal in sight. There are no indoor rooms, so the pet policy covers campers, motorhomes and tents.

Max: bring your own drinking water for both of you. The site runs on bore water that needs boiling, and that is the detail most campers get caught on.

Worth knowing

Farm noise is part of the deal: roosters start early and grain trains pass on the nearby rail line. The surroundings are the upside, with quiet country roads around Vale View good for on-lead walks and big evening skies. On arrival, drive up to the Chookhouse Farm sign and chook mailbox on Shepperd Road and wait in your car for a staff member to greet you. Getting there and parking

Vale View sits south of Toowoomba along the New England Highway corridor, roughly 20 minutes from the city centre. The property fronts Shepperd Road, with parking at your own site once you have checked in. Any vehicle including caravans handles the roads in.

While you're out there

Toowoomba, 20 minutes north, has the broader dog-friendly spread, and a trip up to Harris Park dog off-leash area at Highfields gives the dog a proper off-lead run. Closer in, G H Mott Reserve at Preston is a quieter council option. For supplies and coffee, Red Bean Coffee Roaster at Preston is on the way, and The Chocolate Cottage at Highfields makes a destination morning tea.
