Torbay West camp ground

Torbay West camp ground, also known as Torbay Inlet or Floodgates campground, is a quiet nature-based site at the end of Torbay Inlet Road, with direct access to the inlet and walking distance to the ocean beach. It is first come, first served, with around 24 unpowered sites for tents, caravans and camper trailers.

The pet policy. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times. There is a maximum stay of 7 days, and open fires are not permitted anywhere on site. Bush ticks are common in the coastal scrub here, so check your dog thoroughly after walks.

The place. Sites sit among coastal scrub and peppermint trees, with public toilets and an RV dump point but no showers. Water on site is non-potable, so bring your own drinking water for both you and your dog. Mobile reception is limited to none.

Location and nearby. Access is via a dirt road at the end of Torbay Inlet Road, generally manageable in a 2WD if driven carefully. There are no designated sites, so arrive early on busy weekends to secure a spot. It sits roughly 28km west of Albany and 40km east of Denmark. Walking the inlet banks is a popular activity with dogs, and Muttonbird Beach is nearby, though check local signage for any dog restrictions before you let them off lead. For groceries, cafes or a backup stay, both Albany and Denmark are a short drive away.

A good pick outside peak summer weekends, when the first-in sites are easier to come by and the inlet is calm for a walk.
