The Cosy Cat Cottage

The Cosy Cat Cottage is a renovated, character-listed three-bedroom worker's cottage at 10 Boulton Terrace in the historic Mort Estate, a short walk from the Toowoomba CBD. It is set up properly for dogs rather than just tolerating them: a secure, high-fenced backyard, a large outdoor deck and welcome treats for canine guests on arrival.

Dogs at the cottage

Dogs are welcome with prior approval, and you should include your dog's breed and age when you book. A one-off pet fee of $30 per pet per stay applies, on top of nightly rates from $190 for two people and a $70 per-stay cleaning and laundry fee. Dogs are allowed inside but must stay off all beds and furniture, and they cannot be left alone in the house. The cottage suits a well-behaved dog that does not bark persistently at neighbours or dig up garden beds. Hosts Janice and Michael are hands-on and well reviewed, so any questions about your particular dog are worth asking before you confirm.

The place

Inside it is a proper renovation, with timber floors, new furnishings and original cottage character, sleeping up to six guests across three bedrooms. The secure high-fenced yard is the selling point for dog owners: it gives your dog genuine off-lead time in a heritage suburb where the streets themselves are all on-leash. Do the obvious on arrival and walk the fence line and check the gate latch before you let the dog off.

Out with the dog

The Queens Park Dog Off Leash Area in East Toowoomba is the closest designated off-leash ground, near the Godsall Street entrance of Queens Park. For coffee, the Park House Café on Margaret Street keeps water bowls out for dogs on its footpath seating, and Urban Grounds Cafe has a garden patio that takes dogs well.
