Sorell Council Self Contained RV Park

The Sorell Council Self Contained RV Park, usually just called the Sorell RV Stop, is a low-cost council-run overnight stop at Pembroke Park on Montagu Street in Sorell, about 25 minutes east of Hobart. It is strictly for fully self-contained vehicles: you need your own onboard toilet and waste facilities, because the site has no cabins, no powered sites and no amenity block. What it does have is flat gravel hardstand parking, a dump point, potable water and a covered BBQ shelter with picnic tables, all within walking distance of Sorell's central shops and cafes.

Dogs at the Sorell RV Stop

Dogs are welcome to stay overnight, which is rare for a council-run RV site. The conditions are simple: the dog stays on a lead at all times while you are on the RV park grounds, and in line with Sorell Council's broader rules your dog should be registered, microchipped and under effective control. There is no pet fee listed, though site fees and conditions are set by the council, so confirm anything unusual when you buy your permit.

The dog run next door

The best part for dog travellers sits immediately adjacent: a fenced dog exercise area on the corner of Montagu and Arthur Street, run by the council as the Sorell Dog Park. That means you can give the dog a proper off-leash run without moving the van, then walk back to a central overnight spot. Keep the lead on everywhere else on site.

Fees, permits and how long you can stay

The site runs at roughly $16 per vehicle per night, a figure that has crept up from the $10 quoted in older listings, so treat it as approximate and check the current rate with the council. Permits are available from the Sorell Council chambers at 47 Cole Street on weekdays, or after hours via the self-registration envelopes and deposit box near the dump point. Display the permit on your dashboard: the site is checked. Stays are capped at up to 10 nights.
