Safety Beach Bungalows

Safety Beach Bungalows is a row of self-contained bungalows at 41A Safety Beach Drive, the small coastal settlement just south of Woolgoolga on the NSW Coffs Coast. The property calls itself 100% pet-friendly and means it: dogs are allowed inside the bungalows, the beach is close by, and the fee structure is published rather than negotiated.

The pet policy is one of the clearest in the region. Up to three pets are allowed per bungalow, though that can flex with the size of the animals, so enquire if you are travelling with three large dogs. The fee is $15 per pet, per night.

The sleeping rule has some give to it: management prefers dogs to sleep on the covered deck, but a dog that sleeps indoors at home can do so inside on its own pet bed. Bring that bed with you, because dogs are strictly not allowed on any furniture at any time. Every visiting pet needs up-to-date vaccinations covering fleas, ticks and worms.

One rule needs a phone call before arrival: dogs must not be left unattended without prior management approval, and excessive barking that disturbs other guests is not permitted. Confirm with the owners what unattended time they will allow, such as a short dinner trip, before you book rather than assuming.

The vibe

Guests describe a quiet, low-key retreat: individual bungalows set among gardens, a BBQ setup for cooking, friendly management and beach access close enough to walk. This is the relaxed end of the Coffs Coast rather than a resort, which is exactly why dog owners with a calm dog keep booking it.

Getting there and parking

Safety Beach sits on the coast road between Woolgoolga and Corindi Beach, about 25 minutes north of Coffs Harbour off the Pacific Highway. Parking is at your own bungalow door, and Woolgoolga's shops and cafes are ten minutes up the road.

Close by with the dogs

Tassells Cove is the local beach patch in Safety Beach itself; check the Coffs Harbour City Council signage for the leash-free zones on the sand. For a bigger base, Woolgoolga Lakeside Holiday Park has pet cabins and a dog wash bay, and NRMA Darlington Beach north at Arrawarra has direct leash-free beach access.
