Badger's View Farmstay

Badger's View Farmstay is a small acreage sheep farm at 290 Newbed Rd, Railton, offering dog-friendly cottages and cabins on an adults-only property about 20 minutes south of the Spirit of Tasmania terminal in Devonport. The draw for dog owners is the combination of a secure, large garden for dogs to roam, a working farm setting, and the Wild Mersey Bike Trails directly opposite the property.

Dogs at the farmstay

Dogs are permitted to stay overnight and have access to a secure, huge garden. The property is generally pet-friendly indoors, but specifics on pet fees, size restrictions and indoor access are not clearly published, so contact the host directly before booking. This is a working sheep farm, so keep your dog under control around livestock at all times, and confirm the garden fencing before letting a dog off-lead - never assume farm boundaries are dog-proof without checking.

The place

Cottages and cabins come with king or queen beds and sofa beds, kitchenettes, fire pits and BBQ areas, plus a sun terrace and garden with views across the Badgers Range. Bring your own dog food, beds and water bowls - basic amenities are provided but pet gear is not. Free, secure on-site parking is available.

While you're out there

The Wild Mersey Bike Trails opposite the property double as extensive scenic walking paths for exercising dogs. Railton itself is known as the Town of Topiary, and Sheffield Recreation Reserve Fenced Dog Park is about 15 minutes away in the Mural Town, with outdoor cafe areas nearby. Cradle Mountain is roughly an hour's drive for day trips.
