SALT by the Sea

SALT by the Sea is a set of modern, beach-styled holiday apartments at 31 Flynn Street in Port Macquarie, a short walk from Flynns Beach. Selected units take dogs, which makes it a genuinely handy base for owners who want sand at one end of the street and a self-contained apartment at the other.

Dogs at SALT by the Sea

The pet-friendly units generally take one small dog, with large dogs not permitted, and pets must be approved in advance. No pet fee is consistently listed, and because the units are individually owned and listed across different platforms, the exact rules vary by unit. Message the host with your dog's size and details before booking, and confirm whether a cleaning fee applies. The standard house rules apply once inside: dog off the furniture and beds, and never left unattended in the unit.

The place

The units are renovated and self-contained, with polished concrete floors, large private balconies and full kitchens, which suits dog owners who would rather clean their own mess than pay for it. Bowls are not guaranteed, so pack your own along with bedding and food.

Beaches and walking

One thing to get right: Flynns Beach itself is off-limits to dogs at all times under Port Macquarie-Hastings Council rules. For off-lead sand, head to Lighthouse Beach, where dogs are allowed off-leash from Watonga Rocks south towards the Lake Cathie 4WD access, or Nobbys Beach, which has council-designated off-leash sections. The coastal paths around the headland make a solid on-lead walk either way.

Close by with the dogs

Cafes sit around the Flynns Beach strip and the CBD, and Sandbox is one of the local coffee stops. If the apartments are booked out, NRMA Port Macquarie Breakwall Holiday Park is a pet-friendly fallback by the harbour.
