Scribbly Cottage

Scribbly Cottage is a six-bedroom, self-catering group house on the Sylvan Glen Country Estate at Penrose, in the NSW Southern Highlands. Around 320 square metres on a five-acre corner of the sixty-acre estate, it's built for family gatherings and retreats of up to twenty guests, and the family dog is welcome to come along by arrangement.

Dogs at the cottage

Dogs of any size are generally welcome, with no additional pet fee reported by past guests and platform listings, and cats sometimes allowed on request. Because this is a large group booking on a shared estate, confirm dog numbers and any estate rules directly with Sylvan Glen when you book rather than assuming an open policy. It's fully self-catering, so bring your dog's bed, bowls, food and towels - none of that is supplied. The estate has grazing kangaroos and native birdlife around it, so well-behaved, recallable dogs matter more here than at a typical single-party stay, and keep your dog on a lead near the shared facilities and wildlife.

The cottage and the estate

The house has a dining room and full kitchen sized for a big group, expansive private gardens and outdoor seating, with the wider estate offering grounds to wander. It suits groups and families who want a private rural base rather than a share-house row in town, and there's plenty of space for kids and dogs to burn energy without going anywhere.

Getting there and parking

The estate sits off Kareela Road at Penrose, roughly ninety minutes to two hours from both Sydney and Canberra. Parking is ample and private on the property, so a caravan of family cars is no problem.

While you're out there

Penrose State Forest is immediately nearby for walking trails, and Bundanoon is a short drive for a fenced off-leash park and dog-friendly cafes. If your group splits up, The Vale Penrose on Kareela Road is another pet-friendly rural stay in the village.
