Dogs at A La Folly

Dogs are genuinely part of the stay here rather than an exception. They are welcome in the courtyard and surrounding gardens and generally allowed inside the self-contained unit, The Retreat. The one firm rule is control: livestock and horses are nearby, so pets must be under control at all times, and horses are often exercised along Doyle Road itself. Pet fees are not published and policies can vary, so confirm any charge directly when you book, especially for large dogs or multiple pets.

The place

Old stone buildings, established gardens and a courtyard give the property its rustic character, and reviewers consistently call it cosy and full of vintage charm. Accommodation is limited to The Retreat plus powered and unpowered camp sites, so it is intimate by design, and there is a drinking-water tap in the powered camping area.

Getting there

The entrance is on the corner of Doyle and Toora Road. Coming from Murray Bridge, Doyle Road is on the right just before the crest of a hill. Ignore GPS if it routes you down the unsealed Toora Road; Doyle Road is the sealed entrance. Drive slowly and take it easy on arrival.

Close by with the dogs

Murray Bridge has two fenced off-leash parks a short drive away, Johnstone Park and White Park on Mulgundawah Road, plus open off-leash reserves at Homburg Park, Kuchel Park and Tim Overall Reserve. Sturt Reserve on the Murray River waterfront is the scenic on-leash walk. The Murray River and Lakes region and Mannum, about half an hour away, make easy day trips.
