Mt Warning Rainforest Park

Mt Warning Rainforest Park is a creekside camping and caravan park at 153 Mount Warning Road, at the base of Wollumbin/Mount Warning in the Tweed Valley. The proposition for dog owners is simple and rare: you can camp with your dog on a tent or caravan site surrounded by rainforest, with creek frontage and a fire pit at your site.

Dogs at Mt Warning Rainforest Park

Dogs are permitted on campsites, meaning tent sites and sites where you bring your own caravan or camper trailer. They are strictly not allowed in park-owned cabins, park-owned rental caravans, the amenities blocks, the shop or the swimming pool, so this is a bring-your-own-accommodation park for dog owners. All pets must be approved by management before arrival, which is the detail that catches people out: request pet approval when you book, not on the day. Dogs must be on a leash at all times in the park, cannot be left unattended, and droppings are cleaned up immediately. There is no size limit in the park policy, and no off-lead exercise anywhere on site, so save the free running for elsewhere.

The park itself

Powered and unpowered sites sit among rainforest, with creekside sites the pick of the layout. Amenities include a communal camp kitchen, hot showers and a swimming pool, which is off limits to dogs. Fire pits are available at sites and the park sells firewood on site, so no need to haul your own. One vehicle per site is the rule, with extra vehicles parked outside the front entrance.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 153 Mount Warning Road, Mount Warning NSW 2484, reached by road from Murwillumbah in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. Check road conditions after heavy rain, as some local roads in the valley have a flood history. Parking is one vehicle per site, additional vehicles park outside the front gate.

Worth knowing

Wollumbin National Park's walking tracks, including the summit climb, do not permit dogs, so the mountain itself is out of bounds for this trip. Murwillumbah is the nearest town for supplies and dog-friendly outdoor dining, and if the cabins-with-dog combination is what you are really after, Wollumbin Palms Rainforest Retreat further up the same road is a pet-friendly cottage option nearby.

Max: Get management approval for your dog confirmed before you drive in, then pick a creekside site and keep the lead on, because the park is strict and the national park next door bans dogs entirely.
