Jarrah Glen Cabins

Jarrah Glen Cabins is a 100-acre rural property on Rodda Road at Jalbarragup, just south of Nannup in the Blackwood River country, and it takes up to two dogs of any size. For two-dog households driving south west, that alone puts it on a short list, and the setting backs it up: self-contained cabins with a dam outlook and bushland walking from the verandah.

Two dogs of any size are welcome in most cabins, with a pet fee of around AU$50 per pet for the stay, added at booking. The exception is the Stargazer cabin, so check which cabin you are reserving before you pay. Cats are not permitted. Dogs are welcome indoors but stay off furniture and bedding, and they cannot be left unattended in or around the cabin, so plan your day trips around taking them with you.

Max: This is a working rural block with farm animals, wildlife and a dam edge, so keep your dog managed on walks. It is generous space, not a fenced dog park.

The vibe

The cabins are rustic modern rather than rough: self-contained kitchens, heating, large verandahs and that dam outlook across the gully. Guests mention the animal feeding, the highland cows and the hosts, which tells you the tone of the place. It suits travellers who want genuine quiet and space to walk a dog on lead through bushland, rather than a town base with cafes out the door. Nannup is about a ten minute drive when you need supplies or a coffee.

Getting there and parking

Jalbarragup sits off the Vasse Highway between Nannup and the coast, roughly 40 minutes inland from Augusta and around three and a half hours from Perth. You drive in on Rodda Road and park at your cabin door, with gravel sections on the final approach. Stock up in Nannup before you settle in, because there is no shop on site.

While you're out there

The Jalbarragup Bridge swimming hole and Barrabarup Pool on the Blackwood River are both close by for a dog paddle on warm days. National park sections nearby restrict dogs, so check current rules before you set out.
