Glendora Campground

Glendora Campground is a grassy bush camp about a kilometre from the historic village of Hill End, in a gold rush landscape now managed by NSW National Parks. It is a rare NPWS campground where dogs are welcome, on a leash, and the open sites with kangaroos moving through at dawn and dusk make it one of the more memorable leashed camps in the Central West.

Dogs at the campground

Dogs must stay on a leash at all times and must not disturb other campers. Keep them at least 10 metres clear of barbecues and shared picnic tables, and restricted or dangerous dogs under the Companion Animals Act must be muzzled. There is no separate pet charge; standard NPWS camping fees apply and bookings are made online before you arrive. Bring your own bowl, because there is no dedicated dog water station, and carry your own firewood for the fire pits.

Max: the 10 metre barbecue buffer is the rule people forget when the campground is quiet. Treat every shared picnic table as out of bounds and you will not have a problem.

Worth knowing

The campground has flushing toilets, water taps and picnic pavilions, with room for tents, camper trailers, caravans and motorhomes to park beside the setup. Kangaroos graze the campground at first and last light, which is a spectacle for a settled dog on lead but a reason to keep a reactive dog close. Hill End sits at altitude, so nights are cold much of the year; pack for it.

Getting there and parking

The campground is just outside the village, reached on gravel roads that suit most vehicles including caravans driven steadily. Hill End is about an hour from Bathurst or Mudgee via winding country roads. Parking is at your site.

Close by with the dogs

The village itself is an easy on-leash wander past heritage buildings, and if Glendora is booked out, Village Campground and Turon Crossing Reserve are the other dog-friendly options around Hill End. For a day trip, the Mudgee wine country is an hour east; Burnbrae Wines is a good dog-friendly cellar door to point at.
