Murray Recreation and Caravan Park

Murray Recreation and Caravan Park is a quiet, council-operated park set around the Eden Valley oval and recreation grounds at 1845 Eden Valley Road, in the hills at the eastern edge of the Barossa. Dogs are welcome on sites by arrangement, which makes it a low-fuss base for van and tent travellers moving through the region with their dog.

Dogs at the park

Pets are permitted on the camping and caravan sites only, not inside any cabin accommodation, and always at management's discretion. The council asks you to flag that you have a dog when you book, keep it under control on a leash around the park, and make sure it does not bother other guests. Reviewers regularly call the park genuinely dog-friendly, and there is open grassed space around the oval where dogs get a proper stretch, with waste bags often supplied nearby. No pet fee is published, so ring (08) 8568 1934 when booking to confirm the arrangement.

Worth knowing

This is a simple recreation-ground park rather than a resort. Powered sites sit shaded on grass and suit caravans, motorhomes and camper trailers, while flat unpowered areas take tents. Facilities include hot showers, accessible toilets, a camp kitchen and laundry with microwave, toaster and washing machine, plus free BBQs next to the children's playground. Guests consistently rate the tidiness and the sense of safety, which counts for plenty when you are camped with a dog.

Getting there and parking

Eden Valley is about 20 minutes east of Angaston and an hour from Adelaide via the Gumeracha or Woodside roads. The park fronts Eden Valley Road on the edge of the township, with drive-through access to the oval car park, and the town's general store and pub are close enough to walk.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-site run, Teds Place - Aventure and Training Park at Springton is a dedicated dog space a short drive south. Cellar doors in the hills are mostly relaxed about leashed dogs in outdoor areas, including Edenmae Estate Wines at Springton, and Wanera Wine Bar in Angaston serves meals in a dog-friendly courtyard. If you would rather stay closer to the main Barossa drag, BIG4 Barossa Tourist Park at Nuriootpa also takes dogs.
