Amaroo Park is a holiday park at 130-142 Thompson Avenue, Cowes, at the quieter end of the main street but still within walking distance of the shops and beach. Dogs must be on a lead at all times in the park, must not be left unattended, and are not allowed on cabin furniture or beds. Bring your own pet bedding, bowls and waste bags.

The place. A tidy park with level grass sites, a playground and a pool, set off the noisier stretch of Thompson Avenue. It is a 10-minute drive to the Penguin Parade, The Nobbies and the Grand Prix Circuit, though dogs are not permitted at the wildlife attractions.

Location and nearby. Walking distance to the Cowes foreshore, shops and cafes, many with dog-friendly outdoor seating. Cowes-area beaches allow dogs with restrictions during peak summer times check current Bass Coast Shire signage for off-lead areas and seasonal windows.

Before you book. Free self-parking, one car per site, with extra cars parking on the street. Confirm the off-peak dates and the per-pet fee when you ring to book, and always declare the dog to avoid the no-notice charge.
