Kookaburra Ridge Farm Camp

Kookaburra Ridge Farm Camp is a 52-acre farm and bush property at 97 Biggs Road in Carrajung Lower, in the foothills of Central Gippsland. It is dog-friendly Hipcamp camping with space to match: secluded, tiered sites among mature trees, big views, and a host setup that clearly expects campers to arrive with a dog in the back of the ute.

Dogs are welcome at the campsites, and campers report room to let them run. The catch is that this is also a working farm with miniature sheep and a dedicated wildlife sanctuary, so the deal is effective control: keep your dog from harassing the livestock, marsupials and birdlife, and check the off-leash boundaries with the host on arrival. No separate pet fee is listed, and there are no powered sites, so this is proper bush camping rather than a caravan park stay.

The sites and facilities

Each site is tiered, typically with a top level for vehicles, a middle level for tents and a lower level with the firepit. Every site gets its own firepit and firewood stack, a kitchen workbench, and there are well-kept composting toilets plus rainwater tanks near the camping area. Site 5 is the one dog owners mention, because it sits next to a gate that leads straight onto the property's bushwalking tracks. An on-site farm shop sells seasonal produce from the farm.

Getting there and the coast

Carrajung Lower sits between Traralgon and the coast, about 30 minutes from Tarra-Bulga National Park, which is strictly off-limits to dogs. For an off-leash run, the beaches at Woodside and McLoughlins on Ninety Mile Beach are roughly a 30-minute drive, with the western stretch at Woodside the pick for a proper sand run under effective control.

Close by with the dogs

Traralgon is the practical supply stop about half an hour away, and if camping is not on the cards for the rest of the crew, Traralgon Holiday Village is a pet-friendly fallback. For coffee on the way through, The Food Store in Maffra works if you come in from the north, and Traralgon Dog Park is a fenced stop for a stretch on the drive in.
