SINCLAIR BAY RESORT

Sinclair Bay Resort is a quiet, low-density waterfront property directly on Sinclair Bay near Cape Gloucester in the Whitsundays, and it takes dogs with a clear, specific pet policy rather than a vague pet-friendly label. The private stretch of beach out front is the reason dog owners book it.

The pet policy

Up to two dogs are allowed per booking, with a maximum weight of 25kg per pet and a $50 fee per pet. Select travelling with pets when booking to avoid extra charges on arrival. Dogs are generally expected to sleep outside or on the veranda unless you arrange indoor access with management, so confirm exactly which areas your dog can use before you pay. There is a resident bullmastiff on site named Hokey, which matters if your own dog is not comfortable around other dogs.

The place

It is a secluded estate with direct frontage onto the bay and on-site management during your stay, pitched at people who want privacy and water access rather than a base near shops and dining. The nearest serious amenities sit back toward Airlie Beach, so stock up before you arrive.

Pepsi: a private beach at the front door beats a resort pool every time. Low tide here means a long walk on hard sand and a salty dog for the drive home.

Getting there and parking

The property is at Lot 1 Gloucester Avenue, Cape Gloucester, with on-site parking. It is a proper drive from Proserpine or Airlie Beach on partly unsealed roads, so plan fuel and supplies accordingly.

While you're out there
