Slaty Creek Campground 1 sits inside Creswick Regional Park, a free, unpowered bush camp about ten minutes from Creswick township in the Victorian goldfields. Dogs are welcome on-leash, and the drop toilets and flat ground make Camp 1 the easiest of the three Slaty Creek sites for a dog-friendly stay.
The pet policy. Dogs are permitted throughout the camping area and the wider regional park, but must be kept on a lead at all times. There is no pet fee and no booking system, it is free, first-come camping. Pack out all dog waste yourself, there are no bins on site.
The place. Camp 1 has drop toilets, picnic tables, a gazebo and wood-fire pits (BYO firewood), with shade from surrounding forest and a shallow, seasonal creek running past. There is no drinking water anywhere on site, so bring enough for both you and the dog. The ground is flatter and more open here than at Camps 2 and 3, which suits tents, camper trailers and caravans.
Getting there. Access is via Slaty Creek Road, off the Creswick-Newlyn area. The gravel tracks are generally fine for 2WDs in dry weather, though some sections narrow further into the park. Camp 1 offers the largest, flattest parking for bigger rigs.

Nearby with the dogs. Creswick Regional Park has further on-leash walking trails right from the campground. Creswick town centre is a short drive for supplies and a coffee, with a few pet-friendly options worth checking on arrival. St George's Lake is another easy on-leash outing nearby.
Go in cooler months for the most comfortable creek-side camping and the best chance of avoiding muddy tracks after rain. Good for owners after a quiet, low-cost bush camp with room to roam on a lead rather than an off-leash run.
