Creswick Holiday Park

Creswick Holiday Park is a lake-side caravan park in the old gold-mining town of Creswick, 20 minutes north of Ballarat, with diving boards over the swimming lake, boom gate access, a coffee van and kookaburras in the trees. It is a dog-friendly park with designated dog-friendly cabins as well as dog-friendly sites, which puts it ahead of most parks in the area.

Dogs at Creswick Holiday Park

Dogs are allowed in the designated dog-friendly cabins and on caravan and camping sites. A pet fee of $50 per stay applies to dog-friendly cabins, and a maximum of two dogs is allowed per site or cabin. Dogs must be pre-approved at booking with breed details given, and approval is at the park's discretion; turning up with an unapproved pet can mean refused check-in. Inside the cabins pets stay off the beds and furniture. Within the park dogs are on a physical lead at all times, with no off-leash areas on site, they cannot be left unattended, and they are banned from the amenities block, playground, camp kitchen, BBQ areas and reception. Owners clean up immediately, and persistent barking or aggression is not tolerated.

The vibe

The lake with its diving boards makes this a warm-weather family park, and guests regularly mention the friendly managers. It suits families or couples wanting a relaxed base with swimming on site, for dogs that are calm around other campers and content to stay out of the shared zones.

Getting there and parking

The park is in Creswick on the Midland Highway side of town, an easy drive from Ballarat or Daylesford. Parking is at your site or cabin. Book early for school holidays and warm weekends, when the lake draws the crowds.

Close by with the dogs

Since the park is lead-only, use the town's walks for exercise: the La Gerche walking trail is a 3.5-kilometre shaded loop through pine plantations that welcomes dogs on lead, and St Georges Lake at Creswick has a 2-kilometre circuit around the water where leashed dogs are welcome. For a proper fenced run, the CE Brown Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Wendouree is 15 to 20 minutes south. il Bello Caffè in town is the coffee stop between walks.
