Because it is a private period home rather than a park, the practical questions are the usual rental ones, whether the dog is allowed on furniture and which parts of the house and garden are in bounds. The walk to Ford Street is about two minutes, so the town itself is the dog's backyard: shops, cafes with outdoor verandas and the historic streetscape are all reached on foot without driving.

Worth knowing

Beechworth is a compact, walkable town, and with a dog the rules from Indigo Shire are simple: dogs on lead in public streets and general parks, with Baarmutha Park the designated off-leash area in town for a proper run. Ford Street is busy with tourist foot traffic on weekends, so keep the dog close along the shopfronts. In summer, the chrysanthemum festival crowds and warm afternoons make early morning walks the better plan.
