This is a family holiday home in Bawley Point on the NSW South Coast, a short walk from the off-leash Cormorant Beach, and it takes up to two medium-sized, well-behaved dogs per booking.

The pet policy. Up to two medium-sized dogs are welcome per booking. Dogs are not allowed in bedrooms, so bring their own bed. The garden is unfenced, which is typical for the area, so supervise dogs outside rather than letting them roam unattended. The front deck has good shade and is the preferred spot for dogs when the group is out and about.

The place. A relaxed, family-oriented coastal house on a quiet cul-de-sac with very little traffic, sleeping up to eight guests. Standard check-in is 4pm and checkout 11am. On-site parking is available.

Location and nearby. Cormorant Beach is roughly a five-minute walk away and is a designated off-leash, pet-friendly beach good for walking and swimming. At low tide you can continue around the northern headland to Bawley Beach. A nature reserve sits opposite the property with scenic walking. Leash rules apply in public areas outside the designated off-leash zones, so keep a leash handy for the walk down.

Watch-outs. Kangaroos are frequently seen right in front of the house, and kookaburras, dolphins, penguins and stingrays turn up nearby, so a dog that reacts to wildlife needs a lead on for outdoor time. The unfenced garden means an off-lead dog can wander towards the road or reserve if left unsupervised.

Who it suits. Families or groups with a well-mannered, medium-sized dog who want beach access on foot rather than a drive. Less suited to dogs that need a securely fenced yard to run free, since the garden here is open.

keep a lead by the back door. With no garden fence and kangaroos wandering past most evenings, that's the difference between a calm night and a chase down the reserve.

When to go. Cormorant Beach is walkable any day of the year and the off-leash status holds around the clock, but time a low-tide walk if you want to push on to Bawley Beach around the headland. Book early for summer and long weekends, when South Coast holiday houses fill fast.
