Bathurst Explorers Motel

Bathurst Explorers Motel is a family-owned budget motel at 357 Stewart Street, on the corner of Browning Street, about 2km from the Bathurst town centre and 900 metres from the Charles Sturt University campus. It offers 40 refurbished rooms across two buildings, and it is a straightforward pet-friendly choice with parking at the door.

Dogs at the motel

Pets are allowed to a maximum of two per room, with a surcharge of $20 per pet per night, and service animals are exempt from the fee. Notify the motel when you book so a dog-friendly room is allocated, usually a ground floor or corner room, and check any size limits directly if your dog is on the larger side. There is no published pet size limit, so a quick call on (02) 6331 2966 settles it. Bring your own bowls, bed and waste bags.

The place

Rooms have comfortable beds, en suites, reverse-cycle air conditioning and electric blankets, plus a TV, fridge, microwave and tea and coffee facilities. There is a communal kitchen and a barbecue area, and a low-cost breakfast room on site. Guests consistently rate the value and the friendly, pet-welcoming service.

Getting there and parking

The motel straddles the Stewart and Browning Street corner, about 2km from the CBD and 2.8km from the Mount Panorama circuit. Free guest parking is usually right outside your room, which makes unloading the dog's gear easy, and Bathurst is about three hours from Sydney via the Great Western Highway.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-leash run, Kefford St Off-Leash Dog Park is the town's dedicated fenced park. Gunthers Lane Cafe is a coffee stop in town, and Machattie Park takes dogs on-lead if you want a garden stroll. If you would rather a park or rural base, NRMA Bathurst Panorama Holiday Park at Kelso takes pets on sites and in select cabins.
