Brassey Hotel

The Brassey Hotel is a heritage property in Barton on the edge of the Parliamentary Triangle, and its dedicated Pooch Package makes it one of the more genuine dog-friendly stays in Canberra rather than a hotel that merely tolerates pets. The gardens and quiet grounds set it apart from the city's busier towers.

Dogs at the Brassey

The package covers one dog up to 20 kg per room, with a second dog possible for an extra fee by arrangement. Expect AU$80 per night plus a refundable AU$150 deposit per stay, and confirm current rates and room availability directly with the hotel when you book.

Dogs cannot be left unattended in rooms, stay on lead in all public areas, and are not permitted in indoor dining spaces or the spa. Cats are not accepted.

Max: book the Pooch Package explicitly rather than a standard room. The dog bed, bowls and treat minibar come with the package, and pet rooms are limited.

The room and the grounds

The package includes a dog bed, food and water bowls and a treat minibar, so you travel lighter than most hotel stays with a pet allow. The hotel itself is a quiet, garden-wrapped heritage building, and there is a grassy public walkway behind the property for a quick on-lead loop first thing in the morning.

Location and parking

The hotel sits on Macquarie Street in Barton, an easy walk from the Parliamentary Triangle and the leafy streets around Kingston Foreshore. Free onsite parking is available for guests, which simplifies things if you are driving in with a dog.

While you're out there

For an off-lead run, Yarralumla Dog Park is a short drive away and is the closest proper fenced park. The Kingston Hotel pours with a dog-welcoming front area, and Abode Kingston is the fallback pet-friendly stay if the Brassey is full.
