Genazzano Campground

Genazzano Campground sits on the Barrine peninsula between Lake Barrine and Lake Tinaroo on the Atherton Tablelands, a quiet, nature-focused camp at 739 Powley Road with large waterfront sites. It is a tents and camper-trailer park - local council rules mean caravans and motorhomes are not permitted, and hybrids with fully rigid sides are excluded too. For dog owners that matters, because most national park camping in this region bans pets outright, so a private, dog-welcoming campground is a rare find here.

Dogs at the Genazzano Campground

Dogs are welcome but must stay on a leash at all times around the grounds, and you must clean up after them. Poo bags are provided in the camp kitchen. Dogs are not allowed inside the amenities block or the camp kitchen at any time, and if you need to use the amenities while your dog is with you, the designated doggy parking station between the male and female toilets is where it gets tied. There is no stated size limit and no separate pet fee beyond the camping cost.

Worth knowing

Powered sites start from $35 a night, bookable direct through the campground. You can bring your own fire pit or hire one on site for a small daily fee, with firewood available to purchase. Flushing toilets are on site, generators are restricted to 9am to 4pm, and the place has a reputation for good sunsets and an uncrowded feel. The lake is right at the doorstep for a leashed walk along the shore.

Getting there and parking

The campground is off Tinaroo Falls Dam Road at Barrine, a short drive from Yungaburra. Drive in and park at your site - standard camper trailers are fine provided their rigid sides stay under 1,800mm.

Close by with the dogs

Discovery Parks - Lake Tinaroo is the bigger, busier pet-friendly option on the same road if you want powered sites with a pool and splash pad. Yungaburra village has cafes with dog-friendly outdoor seating, and the Curtain Fig Tree boardwalk is nearby, though national park tracks around Lake Barrine restrict dogs, so check signage before you set out.
