Richardsons Bend Campground is free, dog friendly bush camping right on the Murray River at Barnawartha North, about 20 minutes from Wodonga. Tents, campervans and caravans spread out among private shaded spots and grassy clearings, with direct river access, swimming and fishing from the bank.

The site itself
This is a pack in, pack out site: no toilets, no bins, no potable water and no power, so bring everything and take all rubbish home. It fills up over peak holiday periods, so arrive early if you want a secluded patch among the trees.
Getting there
The campground sits off Barnawartha-Howlong Road on the Victorian side of the Murray. The access track can be rough and a high clearance vehicle or 4WD is recommended, particularly after rain. The area floods, so check conditions before committing.
Worth knowing
The river is the attraction and the main hazard: swift currents, submerged snags and drop offs. In warm months, blue green algae alerts are possible on the Murray, so check warnings before letting the dog swim. Snakes are active along the grassy, treed banks in summer.
Who it suits
Self sufficient campers who want a free riverfront base for the dog, rather than anyone needing amenities. If you want powered sites and showers instead, Beechworth Holiday Park and Albury Central Tourist Park both take dogs within about half an hour, and Belvoir Park Dog Park is the fenced run in Wodonga for a leg stretch.
