Flinders Area A

Flinders Area A is one of the numbered foreshore camping zones along the 4.6 kilometre Flinders Beach stretch on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), between Amity Point and Point Lookout, booked through Minjerribah Camping. For dog owners the deal is simple: this is rustic, 4WD-only, off-grid beach camping where dogs are welcome on lead. There are no powered sites and no sealed-road access, so if that is what you need, this is not it.

Dogs at the Flinders Beach camps

Up to two dogs are allowed per campsite, and the operator's conditions require them on a lead and under control at all times, both in the camping area and on the beach. There is no separate pet fee listed; standard camping rates apply. You are responsible for your dog's behaviour, and campers can be asked to leave if a dog makes a nuisance of itself. Flinders Beach itself stays on-lead; the island's designated off-lead beach is Home Beach at Point Lookout, between Rocky Point and the rocky headland. Keep dogs clear of shorebirds and wildlife along the tree line.

The camp

Flinders Beach has over 200 unpowered sites spread across numbered and lettered zones behind the foredunes, with Area A one of them. Facilities are minimal: some zones have composting toilets, there are no showers at any of the beach camps, and on-site water is not guaranteed, so bring your own supply. A shower pass can be bought for the nearby Adder Rock Campground, run by the same operator. Rates run around $27.95 per person per night, so check current prices when booking.

Getting there and booking

Access is strictly 4WD via the designated beach tracks from Amity Point or Point Lookout, and a vehicle permit is required for beach driving. Bookings are essential and sites are allocated by Minjerribah Camping, with no walk-up option, and the foreshore fills early for school holidays and long weekends.
