Snapper & Co.

Snapper & Co. is the casual fish and chips diner in the Canberra Southern Cross Yacht Club precinct at Mariner Place, Yarralumla, with wide views over Lake Burley Griffin. Two of its outdoor areas are set up to take dogs, which makes it the easy lakeside lunch call after a walk along the water.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in two named outdoor areas: the Courtyard, closer to the bar and ordering counter, and the Lawns, the open grassy stretch further out. The indoor ordering space is for people only. Water bowls are generally out for dogs, and a lead is expected because the outdoor areas fill with other diners on fine weekends. Bring your own treats if yours is food-motivated.

The vibe

The lakeside setting does as much work as the menu: battered and crumbed fish, barramundi, prawn cutlets, burgers and gelato, with tap beer and drinks to take slowly while the water does its thing. It runs family-friendly and casual rather than fine dining, and live music pops up through the warmer months. Weekday afternoons on the Lawns are the quiet window; weekend lunch service gets busy fast.

Getting there and parking

Snapper & Co. is at Mariner Place, Yarralumla, inside the Yacht Club precinct, and there is a large car park on site, though check whether parking validation covers spots outside the main gates. It is also an easy walk or ride along the lakefront path from elsewhere in Yarralumla.

Close by with the dogs

The lakefront path runs straight past the front door, and the Lake Burley Griffin loop makes a good pre-lunch leg-stretcher. For off-lead time, Yarralumla Dog Park on Banks Street is fully fenced with separate large and small dog sections and double-gated entry. Weston Park is on-leash only, with dogs kept away from play spaces and barbecues in use.
