Mount Street Breakfast Bar

Mount Street Breakfast Bar sits at 42 Mount Street in West Perth, at the base of the Kings Park hill, and it has built its name on all-day breakfasts served to a steady crowd of walkers, office workers and dog owners. Dogs are welcome on the covered verandah and at the outdoor tables, which makes it a natural first or last stop for a Kings Park loop.

The dog setup

Dogs join you on the covered verandah and in the outdoor seating, with some tables shaded by jacaranda trees and full table service out there. Water bowls are typically available; carry your own as backup when the post-walk rush is on. Staff have a reputation for being accommodating with dogs. Keep your dog on a short leash; this is a busy footpath at the bottom of a hill.

Worth knowing: the menu

The kitchen is known for a high-end take on breakfast classics. The chilli crab scrambled eggs, built on Shark Bay crab, is the cult dish, with Turkish eggs on garlic labneh and a decadent creme brulee French toast among the regular orders. Coffee rates well and the room opens daily from 7am, with the breakfast and lunch service winding up around 2pm.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits near the corner of Mount Street and Kings Park Road. Parking is paid street parking on Mount Street and the surrounding streets, and it fills fast on weekend mornings, so come early or plan to walk in from the city. The free CAT bus route along Mount Street is another way in without the car.

While you're out there

Kings Park is directly up the hill, with extensive on-leash paths and Swan River views. Note the park rules: dogs are on leash only, with a maximum 2 metre lead, and are not permitted within 10 metres of playgrounds or on the Federation Walkway boardwalk. Jacob's Ladder, the 242-step staircase nearby, is a human fitness track rather than a dog walk; the concrete steps are steep, busy and hot on paws, so stick to the gentler park paths. For off-leash time, the Perth dog exercise area is the designated city option.
