SkyHigh Mount Dandenong

SkyHigh Mount Dandenong is a lookout, garden and bistro complex at the top of the ranges, best known for panoramic Melbourne skyline views and a landscaped maze. Dogs are welcome on lead throughout the outdoor grounds, though the indoor restaurant and cafe stay dog-free.

Dog access and setup. Your dog can join you on the lawns, in the gardens and on the viewing deck, and on the outdoor bistro terrace, all on lead. Indoors is reserved for certified assistance animals only. Bring your own water bowl, since water stations for pets are not guaranteed. Clean up after your dog and keep it close on the busier viewing platforms.

Known for. The panoramic view stretches from the ranges down to Port Phillip Bay, and the landscaped gardens include a Secret Garden section and the Giant's Chair photo spot. It is also a popular venue for scones, fish and chips and family visits, with an entry fee to access the grounds.

Getting there and parking. SkyHigh is at 26 Observatory Road, Mount Dandenong, reached via the scenic Ridge Road from Olinda or Mount Dandenong village. There is a large paid parking area on site, but it fills on weekends and holidays, so an early morning or late afternoon visit gives you an easier run at a park and quieter paths for your dog.

Nearby with the dogs. The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden in nearby Olinda has extensive walking trails, and Olinda Falls is a short, leash-friendly bushwalk. Dog-friendly cafes with outdoor seating are dotted through the villages of Olinda and Sassafras if you want to make a full day of it.

Best visited early morning or late afternoon on weekends, when the car park is easier and the lawns are quieter. Good for dogs that are calm around crowds and comfortable on lead in open, exposed areas.
