Kitchen Farm Pantry

Kitchen Farm Pantry is the paddock-to-plate cafe and restaurant at 162 Flaxley Road, Mount Barker, set in a restored barn at the heart of the Newenham development and ringed by productive market gardens. It is openly family and dog-friendly, and the sheer amount of outdoor space makes it one of the easiest sit-down meals to do with a dog in the Adelaide Hills.

The dog setup

Dogs on leads are welcome across the outdoor areas: the courtyard, the lawns under the trees and the garden tables, with room to spread out a bed or park a pram alongside. Water bowls are usually available or brought on request, though pack a backup on hot days. There is no dedicated dog menu. Indoors stays for people, so head straight for the garden side.

Worth knowing

The seasonal menu draws on what is grown on site, with house-baked goods, strong coffee, the Kitchen Farm salad and a solid run of vegetarian and vegan options, plus a produce store selling farm eggs, sourdough and local goods. Fire pits are lit through the cooler Hills months, which keeps the courtyard usable in winter. Hours run 8am to 3pm weekdays and to 3:30pm on weekends; it is a daytime venue, not a dinner spot.

Getting there and parking

There is free on-site parking at the Newenham estate, about five minutes' drive from central Mount Barker. Arrival is easy by car, and the walking trails through Newenham connect on foot if you are staying in the estate.

Close by with the dogs

The Newenham trails along the River Angas start at the doorstep for an on-lead wander, and the Laratinga Wetlands loop off Bald Hills Road is a flat, scenic circuit where dogs are welcome on leads. For proper off-lead running, Barka Park fenced dog park on Zanker Drive has separate large and small dog areas a few minutes away, and Gawler Street Cafe covers the town side of Mount Barker.
