The Old Mill Cafe & Restaurant

A well-regarded country cafe in a heritage building at 12 Pym Street, in the middle of Millthorpe village near Orange. It draws a strong local following for its baking and hearty lunches, and dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, which makes it an easy stop on a Central West day out.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor and footpath seating rather than inside. There is room to tuck a dog beside your chair at the streetside tables. Staff are generally happy to bring a water bowl on request, but bring your own travel bowl and treats to be safe.

Good to know. It is known for house-made cakes, scones with jam and cream, and substantial lunches, alongside good coffee and local wines. It opens Wednesday to Sunday, roughly 7am to 3pm, and is closed Monday and Tuesday, so plan around that.

Getting there. Millthorpe is an easy drive from Orange or Bathurst. Free street parking is plentiful on Pym Street and the surrounding village blocks.

Nearby with the dogs. The village streets are leafy and pleasant for an on-leash stroll before or after a meal. Glenorie Road Off Leash Dog Area is a short hop for a run, and Angullong Wines cellar door is walkable within the village if you want to make an afternoon of it.

When to go. Weekend mornings fill quickly, so arrive early or aim for a weekday if you want a relaxed outdoor table with the dog. Good for a leisurely brunch stop rather than a quick coffee run.
