Normal Van is a North American-style comfort-food joint on Bussell Highway (the main street) in Margaret River, and it is one of the most openly dog-loving spots in town. Staff run a cheerful pro-dog line, and water bowls and treats are part of the deal.

The dog setup. The best spot with a dog is the outdoor alfresco and courtyard area, with casual footpath seating out the front along the highway. Indoors is compact and mostly for ordering and takeaway, so plan to sit outside. Water bowls and dog treats are frequently on hand, so it is an easy, low-stress stop.

Good to know. Normal Van started as a food truck and is now widely rated for some of the best burgers in the South West, along with buttermilk fried chicken and loaded chips. It is open daily from 9am with dinner service later in the week, and there is a short happy hour in the late afternoon.

Getting there and parking. The address is Unit 2, 115-117 Bussell Highway. There is street parking along the highway (mind the time limits) and public car parks behind the main strip via side streets like Wallcliffe Road.

Nearby with the dogs. The Margaret River rail trail is close for a forest walk, Rotary Park is a good takeaway-picnic spot under the karri trees, and Surfers Point is a 10 minute drive for coastal views.

Treats on arrival and a water bowl already out is the warmest welcome a dog gets in town. Grab a burger, find a courtyard table and settle in.

Go off-peak around the lunch and dinner rush for an easy courtyard table, or grab takeaway and walk it to Rotary Park.
