The Javahut

The Javahut is a busy all-day cafe on Gawler's main street at 69-71 Murray Street, and its early opening and footpath seating make it a reliable stop after a morning walk with the dog. Doors open at 6:30am every day of the week, with the kitchen running through to mid afternoon, so it suits the post-walk coffee crowd better than most.

The dog setup

Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome at the outdoor tables along Murray Street; inside is not for pets. Staff are accommodating and known to bring fresh water bowls out for canine guests without prompting. The footpath tables sit right against the main street, which is handy for people-watching but worth remembering if your dog is nervous about foot traffic. Weekends get busy, so arriving before the brunch rush makes settling a dog far easier.

The menu leans all-day breakfast and lunch: pancakes, eggs benedict, hash browns and a solid coffee list, with gluten-free options on the board. Portions run generous and the tone is community cafe rather than fine dining. It is a popular local fixture, so tables turn over quickly through the weekend service.

Getting there and parking

Gawler's main street is easy to find from either the Gawler or Evanston ends of town. There is street parking directly out front and council car parks within a short walk if the strip is full. The historic main-street buildings make for a pleasant on-lead stroll between the car and the table.

Nearby with the dogs

For an off-leash run before breakfast, the fenced Clonlea Reserve Fenced Dog Park on Murray Road has separate areas for large and small dogs, double-gate entry and agility equipment, plus on-lead nature trails along the river inside the wider reserve. Gawler's small dog park is the quieter option for timid dogs. Apex Park by the river is a scenic on-lead alternative.
