Hemingway's Brewery Cairns Wharf

Hemingway's Brewery sits in the heritage Freight Shed 2 of the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal on Wharf Street, a high-ceilinged craft brewery with a covered waterfront deck over Trinity Inlet. Dogs are welcome in the shaded outdoor area, so it is an easy spot to settle in over a house-brewed beer with the marina in front of you and your dog tucked under the table.

The dog setup

The covered outdoor seating overlooking the marina is where dogs go; the indoor bar is people-only, which is standard for Queensland venues that serve food. The patio is spacious and shaded with room to tuck a dog out of the sun and out of the way of the servers. Water bowls are generally provided and staff are used to canine regulars, but it does no harm to bring your own on a hot Far North Queensland day.

Worth knowing

Around twenty taps pour Hemingway's own beers and ciders, and the kitchen runs wood-fired pizzas, fish tacos, burgers and brewery-style share plates. The building is half the appeal, a rustic industrial shed under high ceilings with views over the marina and the cruise terminal. Live music and happy hour feature through the week. It trades from midday to 10pm daily, which makes late afternoon the sweet spot: shade, the marina breeze, and boats to watch before the evening crowd builds.

Getting there and parking

The address is Wharf Street in the Cairns CBD. There is paid on-site parking plus paid street parking on Wharf and Lake Streets nearby. It is an easy walk from the main CBD and the Esplanade, so you can make the stroll part of the outing rather than hunting for a park.

Close by with the dogs

The Trinity Inlet boardwalk directly outside is good for a quick leg-stretch, and the Cairns Esplanade boardwalk is a short walk away for a longer, flat stroll along the water.
