Wharf One Cafe

Wharf One Cafe sits on the Cairns waterfront at Wharf St, where the deck looks out over the marina and the hills behind the city. It is a tourist-strip cafe that locals still use, which is rarer than it sounds, and the waterfront deck is one of the best breakfast settings in the city.

Dogs are welcomed on the outdoor deck, with fresh water bowls provided; the venue confirms this on its Facebook page. One note for expectation setting: treats are not reliably provided, so bring your own if your dog expects a snack with its water. The deck is open to the breeze off the water, and staff are used to dogs settling under tables through the breakfast rush.

The menu spans eggs benedict, buddha bowls and fish and chips, and the draw is as much the setting as the plates: water views on one side, mountain views on the other. Doors open 7am to 2pm every day, which makes it a breakfast-and-lunch venue; dinner plans need somewhere else along the strip.

The cafe sits along the Cairns foreshore strip, an easy walk from the lagoon end of the city. Street parking along the wharf fills early, and the carparks behind the Esplanade are the reliable fallback. Expect tour groups mid-morning, particularly when reef boats come back in; early is the calmer window if your dog prefers quieter surroundings.

For dog owners the Esplanade proximity does a lot of work: you can give your dog a proper walk along the foreshore first, then land at the deck for coffee while the morning is still cool. The open deck also means space between tables, which makes leashed dogs easy to manage even on busy days.
