Smokehouse 720

Smokehouse 720 is a rustic Texas-style BBQ smokehouse and saloon set up in a converted shed at 388 Bacchus Marsh Road, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor courtyard seating. It is a casual, country-vibe setup rather than a manicured beer garden, and the whole thing runs on walk-ins only.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor rustic seating area on a lead, and there is enough space to settle a dog bed beside your table. Staff are known to be accommodating with dogs. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so bring your own, and keep your dog under control while trays and crowds move through the courtyard.

Worth knowing

The kitchen smokes low and slow: Wagyu black opal brisket, pulled pork, beef ribs, pork ribs, smoked chicken wings and sausages, with brisket and pulled pork burgers, loaded hot dogs, chilli dogs and sharing meat boxes for two. Mac and cheese, coleslaw and pickles fill out the sides, and the bar is fully licensed. Hours are short: Friday 5pm to 8pm and Saturday midday to 8pm only, so check the venue's social pages before heading out, because popular cuts can sell out. Go early on a Saturday for the best pick.

Getting there and parking

The venue sits at 388 Bacchus Marsh Road on the main road into town, with ample free onsite parking, which makes an easy arrival with a dog in tow. It is roughly 15 minutes west of Melton and under an hour from central Melbourne.

Close by with the dogs

Peppertree Park along the Werribee River gives you open grass and a river path for a pre-brisket leg-stretch, and the Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour makes a shaded leashed walk. For a proper fenced off-lead run, the Fraser Street Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a short drive east. Another dog-friendly coffee stop in town is Little Lucky Cafe.
