Recreation Road Fenced Dog Park

Recreation Road Fenced Dog Park is a large, fully fenced off-leash space in the Woodlea Estate in Aintree, roughly half a soccer field of grass with double-gated entries at each end and a decent spread of agility equipment. It is a solid pick if your dog needs room to properly run rather than just potter.

The dog setup

Off-leash is fine inside the fence, but dogs need to be under effective voice control. Clean up after your dog; waste bags are usually stocked at the gate. Remove a dog from the park if it is being unsociable or aggressive toward others, and always close both gates properly on the way in and out, since the double-gate design only works if both are shut.

The park has a rock labyrinth, tunnels, a line of poles, hurdles and a ramped platform to keep dogs entertained. A water tap with a bowl sits at the northern end. Shade is minimal across the open grass, so mornings or late afternoons are more comfortable in summer. A gravel car park sits directly next to the fenced area.

Max: the ground gets properly boggy after heavy rain since there is not much shade to dry it out. Worth keeping a towel in the car if you have had wet weather.

The vibe

Weekends and weekday late afternoons from around 4 to 6pm are busiest as Woodlea residents get home from work. A weekday mid-morning visit gets you the most space. It has a young, growing-estate feel with a regular after-work crew rather than a formal club scene.

Getting there and parking

The park is on Recreation Road in the Woodlea Estate, accessible via Taylors Road. There is ample free gravel parking at the northern end. Rockbank Station is the nearest train stop, a short drive or a longer walk, with local buses also servicing the estate.

Close by with the dogs

Wireless Reserve is the second fenced park in Aintree if this one is crowded, and Boronia Drive Reserve at Hillside covers the next suburb over. Miss Dolce Cafe on Recreation Road, right near the park, has outdoor seating and a dog-parking spot. Staying over, Sundowner Caravan Park at Rockbank is the closest pet-friendly base.
