Paddy Malone's

Paddy Malone's is a proper Irish pub on Grand Boulevard in the middle of Joondalup's CBD, doing hearty tavern food, pints of Guinness and a full events calendar of live music, trivia and karaoke. For dog owners the useful part is the outdoor terrace: well-behaved dogs are welcome in the designated outdoor seating on lead, and you can reach it straight from the footpath without dragging your dog through the crowded bar.

The dog setup

Dogs settle on the terrace under the tables, leashed throughout, and staff have a reputation for being warm with four-legged guests, treats included on occasion. Water bowls are not guaranteed, so bring your own on a warm day. The room gets genuinely loud when the music is on, so a noise-sensitive dog does better on a weekday afternoon than a Friday night.

Worth knowing

The menu runs to the Irish end of pub food: the famous Irish Spice Bag, a black pudding stack, steak sandwich, classic steaks and burgers, all washed down with a well-poured Guinness or the rotating tap list and cocktails. Hours are 11am to 10pm Sunday to Wednesday, 11am to 11pm Thursday and 11am to midnight Friday and Saturday, with the kitchen closing earlier than the bar; the website carries current specials and events.

Getting there and parking

The pub is at 13/115 Grand Boulevard, Joondalup 6027, with access off the corner of Reid Promenade and Central Walk, and Joondalup Station is a short walk away. Free street parking runs along Grand Boulevard and the side streets, with larger public car parks near the library and courthouse a couple of minutes on foot.

While you're out there

For an off-lead session before the pint, Elcar Park Fenced Dog Park on Winton Road is minutes away, with separate double-gated yards for large and small dogs. The Lake Joondalup Circuit makes a longer on-lead walk, and Paper Avenue Cafe covers the coffee end of a day in the CBD with the dog.
