BrewDog Pentridge

BrewDog Pentridge is a large craft beer bar built into the historic former Pentridge Prison site in Coburg, and the reason it works for dog owners is sheer space. The outdoor beer garden and courtyard are big enough that a leashed dog can settle under a bench table without being squeezed by foot traffic, even on a busy afternoon. It trades on BrewDog's own tap list plus Victorian guest beers, backed by a full pub menu of burgers, wings, sweet potato fries and chicken parma.

Dogs are welcome across the outdoor beer garden, courtyard and container bar area, on a lead and settled next to your table. Inside the main dining rooms is a no-dog zone. Staff have a reputation for bringing out water bowls, though carrying your own is the safe bet on a hot day. Weekday afternoons and early evenings are the calm window; weekends and event nights pack the garden and get loud, which is a lot for a nervous dog.

Getting there and parking

The venue sits at E-Division, 1 Champ Street, inside the Pentridge precinct. Paid parking runs within the precinct itself and street parking is available on the surrounding blocks. By public transport it is a short walk from the Route 19 tram on Sydney Road and close to Coburg Station on the Upfield line, which makes it an easy dog-walk-and-pint run rather than a drive.

The Pentridge grounds themselves are a good wander on a leash, with the old bluestone walls to walk past. For a proper leg stretch, the Merri Creek Track via Coburg Lake loop is a few minutes away and pairs well with a post-walk beer. If you want a fenced run first, Egan Reserve dog off leash area is the closest dedicated option. For a coffee stop in the same suburb, The Nicholson Coffee House is another local pick.
