Viewbank Dog park

The dog park on Lyon Road, Viewbank is the fenced off-leash enclosure inside Price Park, listed on Banyule City Council pages as Price Park Fenced Dog Park. It sits near the top of the hill in the broader seven hectare reserve, inside a fully fenced enclosure of roughly 100 by 60 metres, with elevated views out toward Lower Plenty and the Dandenongs.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies strictly inside the fenced perimeter; the rest of Price Park runs under standard Banyule leash laws. There is no separate small-dog yard, so give new arrivals a short on-lead check-in before letting them join the mix. Inside you get benches, drinking water, and bag dispensers, though council stocks them intermittently so carrying your own is the reliable move. Outside the fence there is a playground, BBQ and picnic shelters, a fitness circuit trail and public toilets in the wider reserve.

Pepsi: the hilltop spot and mature pines make this one of the nicer fenced parks in the north-east. Big enclosure, so fetch works properly here.

The vibe

Weekend mornings and afternoons draw the biggest crowds, and the park fills again after 5pm on weekdays as locals finish work. A weekday mid-morning or mid-afternoon visit is the calmest window. The regular crowd skews towards big, social dogs given the lack of a small-dog area, which is worth knowing if your dog is pocket-sized or shy.

Getting there and parking

The enclosure is off Lyon Road, Viewbank, with on-site parking next to the entrance, including wheelchair-accessible parking and an accessible entry. Buses run along the nearby main roads; check Public Transport Victoria for the current route if you are leaving the car. From Heidelberg or Macleod it is a short drive up into the Viewbank hills.

While you're out there

For a proper walk with water views, the Banyule Flats Reserve loop runs along the Yarra a few minutes away. Malahang Reserve fenced dog park and Bundoora Park fenced dog park cover you on other days, and Jijis in Macleod is a solid coffee stop on the way home.
