Tregear Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Tregear Reserve Fenced Dog Park sits on Forrester Road in Tregear, on Sydney's western fringe under Blacktown City Council. It is a straightforward proposition: fully fenced enclosures with double-gate entries, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and room for a proper run rather than a tight lap. For a residential pocket with few alternatives nearby, it has become the default off-lead option for the suburb.

The dog setup

The fencing is split into two separate enclosures, which is the feature that matters most here. Big, boisterous dogs can take one side while smaller or timid dogs use the other, so nobody has to share space with a playmate three times their size. Double-gate airlock entries at each access point stop dogs slipping out while people come and go.

Inside you will find grassed open space, benches for the humans, water for dogs and a poo bag dispenser. The park is wheelchair accessible, and the surrounding Tregear Reserve adds a playground, a baseball field and walking paths, with the Ropes Creek walking path running through to the dog park.

Worth knowing

Off-lead applies only inside the fences. Under Blacktown City Council rules, dogs must be on a leash everywhere else, including the wider reserve's sportsfields, the paths and the walk from the car. Even off-lead, dogs need to stay under effective voice control. Dangerous and restricted breed dogs are prohibited from the off-lead area, and droppings have to be collected and binned straight away.

Because the wider reserve hosts baseball, expect extra foot traffic and parked cars on game days. The ground is open-air grass, so after rain it can turn muddy and wear thin in the entrances.

Getting there

Street parking is available on or near Forrester Road, and local buses service the surrounding streets. Coming on foot, the Ropes Creek path gives a direct, pleasant approach; just remember the leash stays on until you are through the airlock. Weekday mid-morning and mid-afternoon are the quietest windows, while the 6am to 8am and 4pm to 6pm blocks are consistently the busiest.

Make a day of it

Tregear itself is mostly housing, so plan the coffee stop into the drive. Cassandra's on the Park in St Marys is an easy few minutes away, and TNB Cafe in Rooty Hill works well if you are heading the other way.
