Georgeson Oval

Georgeson Oval is The Range's fenced off-leash dog park, perched on Pennycuick Street with an outlook over the Rockhampton airport runway that makes it as good for sunset watching as it is for a proper dog run.

The dog setup

The off-leash area is fully fenced, with picnic tables inside and benches up near the lookout. Leash up for the gate, then let your dog run under voice or signal control once you are in.

Rockhampton Regional Council requires every dog here to carry a current council registration tag, and asks owners to bin waste immediately and fill in any digging holes so the next visitor does not twist an ankle. Aggressive or dangerous dogs must be muzzled, and dogs are to be kept at least 25 metres from the on-site obedience area while classes run. There is usually a water fountain, though pack a bowl as backup.

The vibe

Late morning and early afternoon are the quietest windows if your dog needs space to settle. Early mornings, late afternoons and Saturday mornings bring the regulars, and the runway views make sunset popular in its own right, so arrive earlier if you want the enclosure to yourselves.

Getting there and parking

The oval sits at 61 Pennycuick Street, with additional access from Meter Street, Normanby Terrace, Gardner Street and Hawkins Street. There is no dedicated car park, so plan on surrounding residential streets.

Pair it with

Kinsfolk Coffee on Meter Street is barely a minute's walk away and a favourite with the local dog-walking crowd, while Early Birds Cafe covers the breakfast shift. For a second fenced run, Wandal Off-Leash Dog Park sits on the other side of town.
