Ginninderry Dog Park

Ginninderry Dog Park is a modern, purpose-built off-leash park in Strathnairn on Canberra's western edge, and one of the newest additions to the ACT's dog park list. Its draw is the combination of high-quality secure fencing, agility equipment and separate zones for small and large breeds, in a park that still looks fresh because it is. The suburb is still filling in around it, so the park serves a young and growing pack of locals.

The dog setup

The park is a designated off-leash facility, though technically classified as temporary, so on-leash rules still apply everywhere else across ACT public spaces. The Ginninderry community guidance adds a local condition: dogs are to be secured within their own yard when they are not out at the park. Clean up after your dog, with bins on site, and keep the two size zones doing their separate jobs.

What is on site

Substantial grass areas, an agility and obstacle course, sandstone benches and shaded picnic tables. Water taps are provided for dogs, and waste bags are usually stocked, though bring your own as backup. The layout is clean and new, and the obstacle course gives high-energy breeds a task beyond fetch, which is the difference between a tired dog and a merely occupied one.

Max: obstacle course first, then social hour. A dog with a job is a well-behaved dog.

Getting there and parking

The address is 33 Speldewinde Street, Strathnairn, reached via Pro Hart Avenue and Stockdill Drive, near Kippax Fair. On-street parking lines Speldewinde Street beside the park, and the growing Ginninderry suburb makes the surrounding streets an easy walk for locals. The conservation corridor that runs alongside is a sensitive habitat area, so the leash goes back on the moment your dog steps outside the fence line.

Canberra Dog Hub in Holt is the nearest established dog park and sits on the Kippax side, while Lake Ginninderra Dog Park adds a lakeside run toward Belconnen. Cafe2617 suits the coffee stop on the drive back through Belconnen.
