Hickey Park Fenced Dog Park

Hickey Park Fenced Dog Park sits on Babarra Street in Stafford beside the Wilston Grange AFL fields, giving northside Brisbane dogs a fully fenced off-leash run on mostly flat, open grass. It is a straightforward neighbourhood park: one shared enclosure for all sizes, shade over the seating, and the sports fields next door keeping the setting open.

The dog setup

The off-leash area is fully fenced as a single zone, so there is no separate small-dog section; keep that in mind if your dog prefers calmer company. There is a water tap and fountain for dogs and owners, shaded shelter seating, and bag dispensers with bins near the entry. After heavy rain, drainage can pool near the water tap, so expect the occasional puddle rather than a dry run.

Max: check the rules board on your way in. This one is stricter than most about registration and muzzle enforcement, and leashes come off only inside the fence.

Worth knowing

Brisbane City Council rules apply: dogs need current council registration, stay leashed until inside the enclosure and go back on the lead immediately on exit, and remain under effective voice or hand control throughout. Restricted or dangerous breeds and dogs in season are not permitted, dogs showing aggression must be leashed and removed, and owners are expected to fill in any holes dug.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Stafford Road or Webster Road, with street parking on Babarra Street right by the fields. It fills quickly during AFL matches on the adjoining ovals, though the fenced dog area stays separate from game-day crowds. Brisbane City Council buses run along Webster Road if you are walking in from further afield.

Shand Street Park off-leash dog area is a roomier unfenced alternative near the Kedron Brook tracks, and Roy Harvey Park Fenced Dog Park is another enclosure option close by. For coffee after the run, Alcove Cafe and Deli in Wilston is a short drive with outdoor tables.
