Ashley Avenue Dog Park

Ashley Avenue Dog Park sits inside Ashley Reserve in Ridgehaven, a few minutes northeast of the Modbury and Tea Tree Plaza precinct. It is an unfenced off-leash area set in a green, scenic reserve with a natural creek, walking trails and agility obstacles, so it suits dogs with solid recall rather than wanderers.

The dog setup

The designated dog zone is off-leash under effective voice control, per Tea Tree Gully council rules, and it is not fully fenced, so the boundary is trust rather than mesh. Step outside the zone into the rest of Ashley Reserve and your dog goes back on-lead.

Agility obstacles cater from novice to advanced, which gives the park more structure than a bare paddock. Poo bags are supplied on site, but carry a backup and keep a lead clipped until you have scanned the reserve. Locals use it as a daily exercise ground, so the regular crowd is generally dog-savvy and considerate.

The vibe

It is a proper community reserve rather than a standalone dog park: mature gums for shade, picnic tables, BBQs, a fenced children's playground and a tennis court on the same site. The creek and trails make it easy to tag an on-lead bush loop onto an off-lead run, and open grass gives plenty of room to roam between obstacles.

Max: unfenced means voice control matters more than usual here, keep an eye on the boundary if your dog tends to wander toward the road.

Getting there and parking

The park sits directly off Ashley Avenue with on-street and accessible parking, usually easy outside peak times. Bus routes along North East Road connect through Modbury Interchange if you are coming without a car.

Close by with the dogs

For a coffee stop, Shelley Street Cafe is a short drive away in Tea Tree Gully, and the Yellow Track Loop adds an on-lead bushwalk option nearby.

Weekday mornings and late afternoons draw the regulars, as do weekend mornings. On hot days go early or late and stick to the tree shade, because there is little shelter from the afternoon sun.
